The description of this tour doesn’t do it justice. We could not have asked for a better experience with Neil, who was our guide for the day. Not only did we get a unique and interesting—riveting, honestly—history of Óban, but we learned about the culture of the city. Neil shared many of his personal experiences as a former police officer with us and freely answered all of our questions. He is a natural storyteller. I told him more than once that he needs to write a book! We highly recommend this tour. If we make it back to Óban we will definitely be looking Neil up again, but this time probably for dinner and drinks!!

My family and I had a GREAT time!! They even accommodated time for us and we’ll as having some disabilities. The amount of history and knowledge we got out of this trip was unbelievable and so so interesting. We got to visit some very secluded historic areas and then got to see the famous Scottish coos everyone was looking for!! Afterwards we had THE BEST seafood experience laid out beautifully fresh for us to dig in while sitting dockside. We simply couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

Neil was our host and he was very informed and knowledgeable. We did this tour only on our second day in Scotland and it really laid the historical foundation for everything we learned on the trip moving forward! If you are new to Scottish history this is the place to come for the ultimate education on both Oban and Scotland on a whole. Neil is animated and had tons of anecdotes ensuring the content was never dry. We went to places we would not have otherwise went too. Also, Neil's personal experiences really illustrated the story telling. Seafood at the end was 10/10 as was the company! Would recommend over and over!

Our guide for this experience was Neil and he was fantastic. Not only does he have a vast knowledge of the area, his passion for it shines through. If you're looking for an experience that you couldn't get by exploring on your own, this is perfect. Neil took us to some great places and gave us a lot of fascinating personal stories along the way. My favorite was traveling the back roads and seeing how locals and the coos live! And the seafood platter at the end is divine! A perfect way to spend an afternoon.

Wonderful and memorable tour for our party of four. I polled all members of my group and we all agreed that the tour was a fantastic historical and cultural experience not to be missed. Our tour guide, Charlie, was articulate, friendly and knowledgeable in local history and events. Our guide for the tour was Neil and he had a wonderful knowledge of the local history and culture around Oban. He also shared a few of his personal experiences serving as a police officer in the community which made the tour more unique and interesting. I really enjoyed the extra effort he made to take the van into a glen to get an up close view of highland coos. Excellent tour! Highly recommended.

I really enjoyed traveling with Neil and listening to his information. He has a passion for his local history and this comes through in his spiel. This tour was unique and amazing.

Neil was our guide and provided amazing historical stories and information of the area. He shared a number of his own personal experiences as did we , and since there were only two of on this tour he was our own personal guide.

He was very atuned to things that he thought we would like .

We enjoyed our seafood lunch immensely at Gordons on the Square. I have been a chef in the Caribbean for 19 years on yachts with seafood as my specialty and Gordon’s seafood rivaled mine😊

His seafood was cooked to perfection and I could go back again and again. It gave us a true sense of enjoyment and a delightful culinary experience!

Neil is a great narrator has an amazing knowledge on the local history and places it in that of Scotland and beyond. Hugely interesting stories of all times, AD untill more recent. Great insight in Scotland’s past. And the closing lunch with lots of seafood in the harbor of Oban was great also. Definitely worth it and also a good choice on a rainy day since most of it can be done from the van.

This is a 3 hour tour that will give you a history of Oban, take you on a tour of the countryside and relevant sights, and then reward you with seafood. There are nothing but wins! Neil was my guide and obviously loved Oban's history. I was the only one on the tour so I got the chance to ask all the questions I wanted. Was awesome.

Charlie gave us a great three-hour version of Oban's and Scotland's history. We really enjoyed it and learned a LOT. It was great to see the castle and chapel, as well as the hairy cows as well. The seafood meal that Charlie's partner provided after the tour was nothing short of amazing. Every type of seafood from the Oban waters - everything was delicious. We could not have asked for a better ending to the historic tour. We highly recommend Tartan Tours!!!!

This was a great tour of Glasgow and area! Our guide had extensive historical knowledge about the city from prehistory to modern day and conveyed that knowledge in a way that was entertaining and enlightening. During the tour we stopped at several points of interest and were able to take some time to wander around and take photographs, read information, etc. After the tour part we stopped at Charlies fish shop and he had the most incredible seafood platter waiting for us! Delicious Haddock and Salmon, fresh scallops on a delicious salad, and much more. We could hardly finish it! In short, this tour was great value for the money, the hosts were friendly, and made us feel at home. Not to be missed!

Omg what can I say!!! I would definitely recommend this experience. Charlie has bundles of local knowledge and was really engaging. The information and local stories he gave was amazing (I’m not going to give spoilers) He took the tour at our pace and we didn’t feel rushed when we wanted to take photo’s. the food was amazing at the end. Charley knows his Scottish history and shares the facts and stories in an interesting way. Good stops along the way. Great lunch to finish up! Charley explains that all members of the tour should come prepared for the weather, and it rained off and on during our experience so we were happy we had our raincoats! Be advised that the wonderful and varied seafood lunch is served under cover but at an outside venue.

Our tour was very good, and Charlie allowed us to stop him at any time, for pictures, to get our and stretch, etc. It was difficult to hear him speak because he was in the front driving and does not have a voice that projects very much. (Needs microphone) Neil, however, was sitting in the middle and does have a voice that projects and we all could hear him well. We were just a tad disappointed that we did not get to go into a castle, and I realize that the entry fee would have increased the cost of the tour to us, so it is understandable. The drive and the local historical information were very enjoyable, and made me love Scotland even more.

Neil was very gracious as we were late arriving, as were the other couple on the tour. We were traveling with out college age daughter and this tour was top on her list of favorites for our trip to the Highlands. I would only suggest that if you are not staying in Oban you schedule extra time to explore the area beyond the tour. The seafood meal after the tour was delicious and we had great conversation with The couple from Australia on the tour with us.

The history shared by Neil was truly riveting. We were fascinated learning about the connection with the town of Largs, where we were staying. It enhanced our stay there as well.

We found this tour to be great for our first day in Oban. I understand that it is a new business venture so best of luck as you continue the operations. I would suggest that you could make the meal a bit more special. Perhaps a table set up with number of seats allocated for your guests. Maybe a bit of information given about the restaurant and owner.

Charlie and Neil met us with the Tartan Tour Taxi as promised. They were friendly and welcoming. Neil showed us some historic sites and provided background and personal anecdotes. Lunch was tasty and the weather was perfect. Sadly, we didn't get to interact with any Highland cows. Thanks for the tour Neil and Charlie!
