Tartan Tours Oban

Tartan Tours Oban

Oban is the biggest town in the Isles and Argyll and is famous for Scotland's seafood capital and Gateway to the isles. Because of the area's easy accessibility to Scotland's western isles, most individuals pass through the town without spending time to explore its wide array of attractions and appreciate its stunning beauty. Knowing where to begin your tours in Oban can be daunting due to its many activities, restaurants, and tourist attractions. We have crafted a guide showing top areas to visit during your visit to Oban.

Isles of Kerrera

The Kerrera Isle is the nearest island from Oban's mainland, and it's visible from the harbor. Only residents are permitted to drive their vehicles to Kerrera. Our tour guides will help you explore this area using bicycles or on foot. You can hike on either of Kerrera's two loop tracks. The Gylen Castle Circuit entails the island's southern region and a tour of the castle ruins. The Hutcherson's Monument Circuit runs around Kerrera's northern region and offers captivating views of the Oban area. This path is relatively shorter than the Gylen Castle Circuit loop.

Sea Kayaking

Oban resides on Scotland's Sea Kayak Trail and is the perfect spot for kayaking trips to the nearby regions. Our tours begin at the lively Oban harbor before we crossover to the Kerrera Isle. Multiple other launch points are nearby, such as the Lock Creran, Port Appin, or the Isle of Seil. We offer both half-day and full-day kayaking trips. You can paddle around the Isles of Seil, Kerrera, and Eastdale before exploring the Loch Creran Coast.

McCaig's Tower

The McCaig's tower is a unique element in Oban. In 1897, John McCaig (a local banker) set it up to offer work to local statemasons and serve as the McCaig generation's long-term legacy. The towers sit 10 minutes away from the town's center and provide breathtaking views of Oban and the nearby islands.

Boat Trips

The Atlantic Ocean's clear waters surround Oban, and most visitors are tempted to explore it. Our tours entail boat trips across the islands, loch, and to the wildlife. These boat trips cruise the Firth of Lorn and Sound of Mull Special Conservation Area, where bird and marine life abound. We offer several day trips, but most guests require more hours.

Ganavan Beach

You can easily access this sandy, picturesque beach from the major town by taxi or bus. Our experienced tour guides will take you through the partially paved route to Ganavan. This beach also has public toilet amenities and great views of Lismore, Mull, and Morven. From the lively beach, there is a great walking and cycle track that leads to the scenic inland countryside towards Dunbeg. In case the weather changes and you need somewhere dry and warm to exercise, we'll take you to Atlantis Leisure.

Loch Awe

This stunning freshwater loch sits at the center of Argyll and is known for the Kilchurn Castle's dramatic ruins in the area. The highlight of most day trips to Loch Awe is stopping at the ruins of Kilchurn Castle that protects the northern part of the loch. Loch Awe also houses St Conan's Kirk (a beautiful and magical church) that comprises various architecture designs, artistic animal statutes, and a sophisticated interior design. One of the Church's chapels has a bone fragment that allegedly came from Robert The Bruce.
